Phonics Book 1 and the accompanying audio CD are designed to accompany Levels 1, 2 and 3. The book contains 32 double-page spreads; each spread introduces one individual sound, or phoneme, and gives the letter, or letter combination, which makes this sound. Book 1 covers consonants and short vowels. The approach uses alliteration, assonance and rhythm to ensure that the sentences are fun to listen to and repeat. Each sound is linked to key vocabulary items and practiced through a strategy of listening and tracing to reinforce sound-letter-word correlation and aid memorization and recall.
